ESU Loksound V5.0 L sound decoder with ESU sounds for 140C Chreso steam Locomotive.

The functions have been reorganized and some added.

The LokSound 5 L is intended for use in all applications where the power required exceeds the limits of the LokSound 5. Ideally these are 0 scale vehicles and also smaller 1 scale locomotives. Despite its compact dimensions of just 50.8mm x 25.4mm x 14mm, it is equipped with dual speaker output and a built-in PowerPack.

The LokSound 5 is equipped with a multi-pin connector and comes with an adapter board with solder pads.

Operating modes

Like all products in the LokSound family, the LokSound 5 L is a true multi-protocol decoder. It supports DCC as well as Motorola®, Selectrix® and M4. Of course, it supports 14 to 128 speed levels as well as 2 and 4 digit addresses in DCC format and up to 32 functions. Thanks to RailComPlus®, the decoders automatically register at the appropriate control stations.

This decoder supports all DCC programming modes and thanks to RailCom® you can read CV values on the main, provided you have a control station that supports RailCom®. There are utility registers for command stations that only facilitate programming CVs ranging from 1 to 255.

Motorola® users benefit from up to 28 speed levels and 255 addresses. Three additional Motorola® addresses make it easy to trigger 16 functions. An integrated programming mode even allows programming with the good old Control Unit 6021.

The M4 protocol supports automatic recording on mfx® compatible headunits.

The LokSound 5 L decoder supports Märklin® brake sections as well as ZIMO® HLU brake controls or the Lenz® ABC system. Braking with DCC or DC braking generators is also possible. Additionally, the locomotive with a LokSound 5 L will stop when a Selectrix® braking diode is switched on. The ABC push-pull function allows automatic commuting between two stations.

The LokSound 5 L decoder is also suitable for analog DC and AC configurations.

Sound

The LokSound 5 L decoder can reproduce up to 10 channels simultaneously. Each channel offers up to 16 bit / 31250 kHz and so we finally achieved hi-fi sound quality on your network. For all practical purposes, no difference from the original can be detected. A dual class D audio power amplifier with an output power of up to 2 x 3 W powers the speakers with a permissible impedance of 4 to 32 Ohms. The enormous sound memory of 128 MB ensures sufficient storage capacity.

The volume of all individual sound fragments can be adjusted separately. The extremely flexible sound engine without a rigid flowchart facilitates a prototypical simulation of every imaginable railway vehicle. Three separately adjustable braking functions and two alternative charging scenarios give you maximum control of your vehicles.

Functions

Each LokSound 5 L decoder has 11 amplified function outputs. In addition to this, there are 6 further logic outputs, which can, if desired, control two RC servos or SUSI expansion modules. Of course, all important lighting functions are supported. The brightness of each output can be adjusted separately. The decoder supports automatic push and pull movements - known as coupler waltz - necessary for the reliable operation of digital couplers such as those from ROCO® and Krois® as well as Telex® couplers. 4 sensor inputs can be used to trigger functions.

Motor control

The motor control of the LokSound 5 L has been further improved. A variable PWM pulse frequency ranging from 10kHz to 50kHz ensures perfect quiet operation, especially for coreless motors. So the typical buzzing noise is a thing of the past. Load control can now be adjusted with up to 10 separate HPs and will thus handle even the toughest cases. The unique “Auto Tune” function makes it easy to automatically calibrate the decoder to perfectly match the motor. The LokSound 5 L decoder provides sufficient current for the motor, namely up to 3.0 A.
